|The 8th Red Spring festival, the year’s largest gathering of blood doners, will be taken place on March 8th in Hanoi.|
This year’s festival began on February 24th and hopes to achieve an overall contribution of 8,000 units. The main day on March 8th is expecting 5,000 units to be collected, including at least 1,500 units of blood type A and 2,000 units of blood type O.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tri, Head of the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion – one of the organizers of the festival, said that the festival continued to call on communities to donate blood for saving patients, especially those with blood types O and A as the demand usually exceeds the amount donated
Initiated in 2008, the festival aimed to deal with serious shortages of blood after Tet in Hanoi. Based on the success of the festival, since 2010, the national steering committee on blood donation has expanded the festival across the country.
After 7 years, the festival of humanitarian hearts has received greater response from provinces and cities. Statistics show that since this January, over 30 provinces and cities have organized the festival while it is expected to continue to be held in many others in the next few days./.
