The Hanoitimes – On February 17, Vietnam Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland Nguyen Van Thao presented his credentials to Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremony was held solemnly at Buckingham Palace in London.
While receiving Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao, Queen Elizabeth II expressed her keen interest in further boosting the ties of cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth II also expressed strong support for the program of cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
Referring to the specific priorities in terms of their work, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao said his own efforts on Vietnam ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in an effort to promote more ties of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. On this occasion, Ambassador also pledged his best efforts to fortify the Vietnam-UK ties and extended regards from President Truong Tan Sang to the Queen.
The establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries in 2010 has demonstrated the Vietnamese Party and State’s sound foreign policy as the bilateral relations have blossomed in a multitude of areas. Both nations have conducted annual dialogues to enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust. This year, they will celebrate 5 years of strategic partnership, the Vietnamese diplomat told his guest.
He also underlined the need to promote economic links by encouraging more and more major UK businesses to run investments in Vietnam and bringing Vietnamese goods to the British market. Vietnam and the UK should foster education cooperation and cross-cultural exchange as a contribution to spurring the vigorous growth of bilateral relations, Thao added.
During his tenure working, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao confirmed the efforts to promote comprehensive relationship in the spirit of Strategic Partnership, but will focus on a number of key factors to enhance practical efficiency.
“The first thing is to promote economic cooperation. We hope to have more major British firms doing business and investing in Vietnam. And we also hope to see more Vietnamese goods in supermarkets across the UK”, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao shared. Besides, according to Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao, the two countries will strengthen cooperation in education and cultural exchanges to further promote bilateral relations.
