PANO – Over the past years, the Ha Giang provincial Military Command has actively teamed with sappers of Military Zone 2 to collect thousands of unexploded ordnances (UXOs), turning thousands of hectares of land into arable soil.
Particularly in 2014, they liberated about 300ha for cultivation.
In early this year, the command’s engineering unit deactivated a big American produced bomb, containing 25kg of TNT explosive, in Nguyen Trai ward, Ha Giang city, Ha Giang province.
Ha Giang province is a place among Northern border provinces most contaminated with unexploded bombs and mines left behind the war, and the local are still leading a hard life while the clearing process has been hindered by geographical conditions.
Thus, the UXO clearing should be given practical assistance from the State, Ministry of National Defence and sponsors so as to ensure local people’s safety.
