PANO – Air Force Regiment 921 of the Air Defence-Air Force Service’s Division 371 on March 14th held a ceremony in Hanoi to receive the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces conferred on Battalion of Aviation Engineering Assurance and the certificate to recognize its “Field Command Post” as a historical military relic.
In wartime, officers, troops and technicians of Battalion of Aviation Engineering Assurance under Regiment 921 obtained brilliant feats of arms, making great contributions to the liberation of South of Vietnam and national reunification. The President signed a decision to grant the unit with noble title in acknowledgement of its contributions.
The field command post of Regiment 921 was used from early 1967 to March, 1968 when the US air force conducted a destructive war in Northern Vietnam, including Hanoi. Regiment 921 commanded and developed suitable fighting tactics for fighter MiG-21 to cope with the American fighter bombers.
Addressing the ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, the service’s Commissar highly appreciated the achievements of the regiment over the past years and affirmed that the recognition of the command post as historic-military relic at city level is an honour of the unit and at the same time an opportunity for it to protect and use the post effectively in the coming time.
He asked the unit’s officers and troops to further study, uphold and promote the glorious traditions built by former generations.
