Malaysia is waiving the visa fee for tourists from China through 2015 in a bid to boost the declining number of Chinese arrivals to the nation following the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines’ MH370 flight last year.

According to the Malaysian News Agency Bernama, Minister Wee Ka Siong from the Prime Minister’s department made the statement on February 21, adding that signs of recovery have already been seen since the fee waiver was announced last year.

He noted this year will be essential to bilateral ties between his country and China, including the inaugural visit of Li Keqiang to the Southeast Asian nation since becoming the Chinese Premier in 2013.

Meanwhile, Huang Huikang, China’s Ambassador to Malaysia, said the Chinese Government expects 2 million locals to travel to Malaysia this year, increasing from 1.7 million last year.-VNA
